Hair transplant for curly, Afro-textured, or wavy hair is more demanding technically — but produces excellent results when performed by an experienced team.
Why Curly/Afro Hair Is More Technically Demanding
Curved follicles: Curly hair follicles follow a curved path beneath the skin. The FUE punch must follow the curve precisely to avoid transection (cutting the follicle). Higher transection risk than straight hair even among experienced surgeons.
Implantation considerations: The natural curl continues into the implanted follicle. Correct depth and angle ensures the hair emerges naturally.
The Advantage of Curly Hair
Significant advantage: curly hair provides more apparent coverage per graft than straight hair. The curl distributes visually across a wider area — fewer grafts can achieve satisfying density.
Finding the Right Clinic
Ask: Does the clinic have before/after results from patients with similar texture? What is the transection rate for Afro-textured hair? Has the team significant case volume in this hair type?
Our team has extensive experience with all hair textures. Send us photos — we will assess your case honestly.
